Bathroom Remodeling Tips

The most personal room in your home! Your dream   bathroom that’s high on comfort and personal style, but you also want materials, fixtures, and amenities with lasting value. With SolidAce ‘s help you can have both.

  1. Have a Finalized Plan!

SolidAce Construction & Development Corp. suggest that before ripping out the first tile, think hard about how you will use the space, what materials and fixtures you want, and how much you’re willing to spend. We recommend spending up to 2-3 months evaluating and planning before beginning work. That way, you have a roadmap that will guide decisions, even the ones made under remodeling stress.

  1. Keep the Same Footprint

In your plan, keeping the same footprint, and locating new plumbing fixtures near existing plumbing pipes, saves demolition and reconstruction time and money. You’ll also cut down on the dust and debris. Make the most of the space you have. Glass doors on showers and tubs open up the area. A pedestal sink takes up less room than a vanity. If you miss the storage, replace a mirror with a deep medicine cabinet. Provide power outlets for accessories.

  1. Make Lighting a Priority

Make a bathroom more satisfying by having lighting designed for everyday grooming. You can install lighting for a fraction of the cost of pricier amenities. A well-designed bathroom task lighting surrounds vanity mirrors and eliminates shadows on faces:

For these bathroom task areas, we  recommends:

  • Toilet: 45 lumens (LED)
  • Sink: 450 lumens (LED)
  • Vanity: 800+ lumens (LED)
  1. Clear the Air

Bathroom ventilation is essential for removing excess humidity that fogs mirrors, makes bathroom floors slippery, and contributes to the growth of mildew and mold. Controlling mold and humidity is especially important for maintaining healthy indoor air quality and protecting the value of your home — mold remediationis expensive, and excess humidity can damage cabinets and painted finishes.

  1. Have Storage

Bathroom storage is essential! By the time you’ve installed the toilet, shower, and sink, there’s often little space left to store towels, toilet paper, and hair and body products. Here are some ways to find storage in hidden places.

  • Think vertically: Upper wall space in a bathroom is often underused. Freestanding, multi-tiered shelf units designed to fit over toilet tanks turn unused wall area into found storage. Spaces between wall studs create attractive and useful niches for holding soaps and toiletries. Install shelves over towel bars to use blank wall space.
  • Think moveable: Inexpensive woven baskets set on the floor are stylish towel holders. A floor-stand coat rack holds wet towels, bath robes, and clothes.
  • Think utility: Adding a slide-out tray to vanity cabinet compartments provides full access to stored items and prevents lesser-used items from being lost or forgotten.

Helpful “Don’ts “ in Home Remodeling

Help your home remodeling or renovation go smoothly and stay on budget with this wise advice from SolidAce Construction & Development Corp. We are a designer and contractor, and some of the lessons we have learned over the years from our previous clients can help future homeowners too. What you do is just as important as what you don't do, and sometimes a homeowner's instinct can negatively affect a home renovation project.

  1. Don't work without a professionally made plan or design. Some projects require an architect, some an interior designer, and sometimes a talented builder will get your aesthetic and help you come up with a good plan. Leave the details to the professionals, that’s what you’re paying them for right?Whatever you do, don’t start a remodel without a detailed floor/layout plan. A lot of elements interact in a space — put them all on paper and you’ll catch problems before they are built. You may be able to build a functional space without a plan, but if you want a functional and beautiful space, get the professionals help!
  2. Don't delay important decisions. the best thing to do is make every single decision before construction work starts. A good contractor/builder can talk you through the list of situations that might come up on your job, but decisions about situations aren't usually what cause delays. Instead, most of the issues are related to decisions about things like paint, trim and faucet selection.
  3. Don't change your mind (too much). Even though it's inevitable that you'll change your mind about something on your project, know this: Every time you change your mind in Home Remodeling or any small or large construction project, it'll result in a change order. Although the change may seem minor, there are always added costs — even if it's only the time spent discussing the change. Scheduling can be affected too. Everyone working on the job needs to be informed of the change so no one's working on the old plan. Everyone makes changes, and that's OK — just be aware of the potential to disrupt and delay the job.
  4. Don't buy your own materials. It seems like an obvious way to save money — a builder is going to mark up the cost of materials and pass that added cost on to you. That’s true, but the builder may get a better price than you to begin with, meaning that even after markup, you'll pay the same price.
  5. Don't work without a contingency fund. If you find out that the work you wanted to do costs more than you expected or budgeted, you’re in good company. It’s almost unheard of that a person sets a realistic budget for a project. But don’t eat into your contingency to stretch the budget. If you follow rule number two and make every decision ahead of time, you can probably get away with a 5 percent contingency if you have a good general contractor.
  6. Don't be a distraction. It may sound harsh, but every minute someone working on your house spends talking to you, they are not working on your house. Is the conversation important and one that will have an impact on the job? That's one thing, but the electrician on the job isn't getting paid any more to spend 30 minutes talking about your vacation plans.

Eco-Friendly Landscape Design

Certain landscape designs can definitely be more environmentally friendly than others. At SolidAce Construction & Development Corp., we incorporate quality, Eco-friendly home features., we can help design a home based on your individual needs and lifestyle using the latest in green technology.

Extend your environmentally friendly home features into your landscaping with these tips:

Help Save Water

In the Philippines, it rains a lot! So  our yards can be naturally watered most days of the year. In the summer season, keep your watering to a minimum. Shiny, perfect lawns are water greedy. Consider moss in lieu of high-maintenance grass for an eco-friendly alternative that will save you money on your water bill.

Plant Native

Use plants that grow naturally in the Philippines. Some plants can even be invasive, wreaking havoc on your other plants and the surrounding ecosystem. Native plants/fruit bearing trees are also beneficial to bugs, birds, and small animals to keep our nature in tune.

Keep it chemical-free

If you have pests, consider the use of bird nets or fencing rather than pesticides. Most chemicals harm the environment and spread easily through drainage systems into our bodies of water. Read labels carefully if you do choose products on the market.

Minimize soil erosion

Have a landscape design that will avoid or minimize soil erosion. Complicated raised land or gardens above rockery designs without thought for drainage can add to erosion because of disturbed soil. Erosion will require the use of heavy equipment to fix, causing pollution and a frustrating repair process that will be expensive.

Let us help you incorporate eco-friendly landscape design into your home projects. Please give us a call SolidAce Construction & Development Corp. at Dr. V. Locsin Street Dumaguete City or call 035 422-9478,226-2880 .
