Home Construction 2

Last time we talked about how we should approach our design for that dream house of ours, and how a change in perspective and looking at the perspective of others will go a long way into visualizing how our home will look like. Don't worry about other people saying that you copied someone else s designs, since you only took inspiration on it and made it your own, you can even credit the designer who you took the inspiration from when a friend asks how you came up with the design.

Now that you have a good approach to your design process, you should contact an architect or a designer that can help you get your idea on paper and create a detailed computer 3D model of it. Many people select a builder or contractor first and then have them consult with then an architect afterwards. This is counter intuitive because the contractor will have a big hand in the design and they usually stick to what they know and will say that something cannot be done this way or increase their prices to do something they are not used to doing, which is a really bad thing since you end up paying more for shoddy work.

The best approach is have the designer complete all exterior and interior designs, taking into account the actual size and terrain of the lot. It is really important that you design taking into consideration the contour of your lot, especially if you have hilly terrain.

You will be surprised with the myriad of possible designs. And after finalizing your design, you can have contractors bid for making your house; in this way you get the best price and contractors already have a firm idea of what they are getting in to and will hopefully have a plan on the construction approach.
